Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- An early afternoon scare for Moorhead fire department and police near the river.

The fire department got a call of a car floating in the Red River near Bluestem today. Moorhead and Fargo crews made a mad dash to the banks, and even sent in a boat to investigate.

Luckily, they did not find a car, only a dock and debris floating in the water. But they say it's always better to fully investigate, even if it ends up nothing.

Rich Eggert, Moorhead Asst. Fire Chief, says, "if you're not sure what you're seeing you can give us a call. There are police officers on both sides of the river. They're quickest, they'll get there, get a look at it, If you can keep your eyes on it if you're the one who calls so we can get a description, but yes, we'll come check it out. Better safe than sorry."

Anyone who sees anything suspicious in the water is asked to contact authorities.
