BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Authorities say the driver of a pickup truck that crashed into a party bus on a highway south of Bismarck, seriously injuring some of those onboard, was drunk at the time and driving with a suspended license.
James Warner Jr., 31, was arrested on charges of drunken driving, driving with a suspended license and unauthorized use of a vehicle following the pre-dawn Saturday crash about 15 miles south of Bismarck on state highway 1806. There were up to 24 people on the bus when the crash happened, including several who were standing up.
Twelve people were taken to Sanford Health and St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck with injuries, mostly to the upper body and head, said Sgt. Tadd Pritchett, of the Morton County Sheriff's Department, told the Bismarck Tribune (http://bit.ly/18HNoyY ). He said some injuries were serious.
Julie Skaret, a St. Alexius Medical Center spokeswoman, said Sunday that the hospital treated and released six people who were injured in the crash. Sanford Health did not respond to a phone message Sunday seeking an update on the status of the injured.
Warner recently moved to North Dakota from Virginia, which has warrants for his arrest on charges of failing to register as a violent sex offender and for violating probation, Pritchett said.
Warner had worked for a farmer in Sioux County for three days, Pritchett said. Warner was allegedly driving the farmer's pickup without the farmer's knowledge when the crash happened, a few miles south of Fort Lincoln State Park.
