PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is visiting the Standing Rock Indian Reservation to meet with people and tour businesses started by tribal agencies.

Tribal Council member Ron Brown Otter says the governor will meet Thursday with Tribal Chairman Charles Murphy, other council members and the public in Bullhead, a town in the reservation's Rock Creek District.

Brown Otter says the governor will tour the site of a proposed school and some of the businesses started by the community. He says the community has started a cattle operation, welding business and a hunting lodge in an effort to provide jobs. Brown Otter says tribal officials are interested in discussing a collaborative effort to build housing in the area.

The Standing Rock Reservation straddles the South Dakota-North Dakota border.
