Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Did you know May first, May Day, is also known as Loyalty Day? And to celebrate, local vets are re-dedicating the Fargo Statue of Liberty.

Loyalty day is also a day to remember to properly retire old and tattered American flags by bringing them into a nearby VFW.

The chairman says it's all part of being an American.

Terry Richardson, ND VFW Chairman: "We need patriotism through our cities here, you know. The united patriotic bodies, we promote that throughout, from Dilworth all the way to West Fargo to Harwood. And we need to do that, to keep America strong."

VFW members were planning a parade today, but chose not to, because of the flood fight.
