MN National Guard Helping Flood Communities

Oslo, Minn. (WDAZ TV) - The National Guard continues to help flood communities. Some members are still in Oslo, Minnesota after nearly a week of dealing with the town surrounded by water.

There are 13 soldiers helping local authorities, keep a watchful eye on any breaches that may happen. Although water has gone down the past couple days, the only way in or out of Oslo is by boat.

Soldiers use their own vehicles to get into town. They are doing whatever they can to help homeowners.

"We've been doing dike patrols nightly just to help them out because they can't keep doing it 24/7 so we take the night shift and any other shifts they can't cover. We've also been planning evacuation routes in the event the dike does break." Minnesota National Guard Sargeant Benjamin Milner said.

Soldiers will stay in Oslo until the water is off roads.
