Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- For the past few weeks, anglers have been creative in order to get out on the ice.
2-by-fours and plywood. Even 4-wheelers.
But with these warmer temps and windy days, the DNR says now is the "not" the time to be taking risks to get fish.
There is plenty of open water near the shoreline, making it dangerous to try and get to "thick ice."
Phil Seefeldt- DNR Conservation Officer: "Last week we wouldn't have been having the conversation but with the temps and four wheelers and you are not putting yourself at risk but those coming out to rescue you at risk."
While some long time lake watchers, predict many of the lakes will not be "ice-free" for the opener, the D-N-R is still preparing the public accesses for traffic.
