Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- It took a lot longer than they hoped but the North

Dakota high school baseball season finally got underway this afternoon.

The EDC will be taking its best shots at West Fargo again this year.

The Packers are the defending state champions; but graduated 11 players

from the title winning team.

Head coach Brett Peterson is ready to see what his young guys will do;

but with a shortened schedule there's not a lot of time to expiriment with

different lineups.

Brett Peterson- West Fargo Head Coach: "We have a lot of guys that will be getting varsity at bats for the first time. So, there is an adjustment period and we may not have that adjustment period in a shortened season.

I think that'll be the biggest challenge. I think we're going to throw strikes. I think we're going to be good defensively. It will be how quickly can we get acclimated to varsity pitching."

Camran Bonnema- West Fargo Sr. P-OF: "With the games being all compiled up we're going to have a lot of pitchers throw multiple innings for us and we just have to play defense."

Packers open their season with Moorhead tonight; game being played at Concordia.
