Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Fire crews are investigating a south Fargo apartment fire that broke out this morning.

Firefighters responded to smoke coming from the roof vents and attic of a 12-unit building, located at 42-19 10th Avenue South.

They were able to get the fire out quickly by tearing into the ceiling.

The Red Cross set up an evacuation center after 28 people were displaced.

Norm Scott- Fargo Fire Marshal: "The fire was coming from the attic area. They pulled down some ceilings and got the majority of the fire knocked down and everybody got out of the building safe."

Kaitlyn Stoen- Lives Inside Apartment: "It was scary. I was really confused as to what was going on. I didn't really think it was actually real."

The Red Cross is providing hotel rooms for the next few nights.
