GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks man who held a SWAT team at bay for hours over the weekend faces felony charges of burglary, arson and criminal mischief.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that 25-year-old Steven Bonderud appeared in court on Monday. He did not enter pleas to the charges that could land him in prison for 30 years if he's convicted. He is due back in court June 3.

Authorities allege that an armed Bonderud was suicidal on Sunday when he broke into a home that was for sale and set several small fires inside. He eventually surrendered peacefully but the standoff prompted authorities to evacuate two nearby churches.

Authorities estimated damage to the home at $10,000.
