Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- The all-time winningest coach in NDSU basketball history has been away from the sidelines for 21 years, but the itch to coach apparently never left.
Park Christian High School in Moorhead announced today that Erv Inniger will take over as the boys basketball coach for next season.
Inniger: "I would have never guessed it either, I think it was a matter of getting together with Park Christian administration and boosters and asking me would you even consider it, after 2-3 weeks there was a excitement there haven't had in a long time."
What did you miss most about the sidelines?
Inniger: "The kids; I call them kids; they're adults, anytime you get to work with young people it's pretty special, that's what you always miss."
You watch a lot of basketball but you probably noticed from your days; what are the challenges catching up with that?
Inniger: "We all run offenses and defenses matter, get back into that, get into the system for here; colleges were sophisticated here; want to keep it simpler do less things do things fundamentally sound."
You had the health scare last year the hear attack when you were driving...how healthy, are you ready for this?
Inniger: "Absolutely wouldn't be doing this if I didn't just got my numbers unbelievable just got off my physical, cholesterol dropped from over 300 to 157."
You've never coached high school, what do you think will be the toughest adjustment?
Inniger: "They're kids; pushing kids; college kids they come in they got a scholarship, can pound on them, push them, these kids are here to get a education and they're high school kids but I'm going to push them as hard as i can."
Inniger will coach just this season for the Falcons and then the JV coach will take over next season.
