Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Today, marks the start of Severe Summer Weather Awareness week in North Dakota.

As warmer weather starts to roll in, sometimes bringing extreme heat, severe weather often follows. Here in the Valley, we often see strong thunderstorms, with dangerous lightning or large hail. Enough to do a lot of damage if you're not careful.

Tornadoes aren't unusual either, or extremely high winds. So officials say make sure you're ready for the worst, just in case.

Dave Rogness, Cass Co. Emergency Manager, says, "have a plan for sheltering, whether you're at your home, when you're at your place of work, or any place. How are you going to deal with a severe weather situation?"
