(WDAY TV) -- Some of the most memorable moments of the division one era for NDSU football have came against the neighboring Gophers. Sadly, we may have seen the last of that series for a long time and UND may never get a shot at Minnesota.

Today, the Big Ten conference approved a 9-game conference schedule beginning in 2016. And a scheduling model that prevented teams from playing any FCS opponents.

This directly affects NDSU, who's scheduled to play Iowa in 2016. Bison athletic director Gene Taylor calls it disappointing and concerning. He believes that Iowa will do everything they can to play the Bison game in 2016, the Iowa athletic director is former Bison quarterback Gary Barta.

Taylor also added that the Big Ten may be concerned that the FCS schools

are getting too competitive with the Big Ten.

Here's what UND athletics director Brian Faison had to say about it.

Faison says, "I do think what's going to happen Jody is that there will be more pressure on FCS schools to look at FBS as an option. And I think you're also going to see some pressure for some of the leagues to schedule more conference games across the board. You may see a situation where all of these conferences add on an additional game or two to offset."

Faison also said that he had very preliminary discussions about scheduling the Gophers for 2017 or 18, but it appears that won't happen.
