Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- Outside of Memorial Auditorium, a group of students and other activists picketed the event.

Students and representatives from groups like "Toxic Taters" wanted to raise awareness about sustainability and pesticide drift. One woman who lives near Ron Offutt's potato fields says the pesticide drift is forcing her to move, because it affects her breathing.

Demonstrators also urged Bill Gates to make environmental changes in his company Republic Services/Allied Waste.

Carol Ashley from Park Rapids says, "I just hope people would become more conscious of the choices they make and understand the importance of healthy food and make their choices appropriately. Understand that it's not just about what they eat, it's how that food is produced."

Prior to the event Demonstrators were using social media to voice their opinions.
