Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- We have a better idea of where the Red River in Fargo will crest. The National Weather Service says it should come in just shy of 38 feet, Wednesday or Thursday.

It's the first official deterministic crest prediction.

The river is rising quickly, at 21.85 feet right now.

The crest range now is 37 to 39 feet, due to the lessening risk of severe rain early next week.

Mayor Dennis Walaker thinks it will come in on the low end. He says "37 is a really good number."

Meanwhile, in Wahpeton, the Red is getting close to a crest.

It's at 14.36 feet, and is expected to peak at 15 feet overnight or early tomorrow.
