BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Bismarck man has been sentenced to prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon announced Wednesday that 28-year-old Jamie N. Nilsen was sentenced to 15 years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

Prosecutors say Nilsen brandished a .45 caliber handgun during a dispute at his girlfriend's Bismarck home in April 2012.

Nilsen was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of seven prior felony convictions, including an aggravated assault conviction.
