Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The National Weather Service says it's ready to issue a projected crest of the Red River in Fargo tomorrow.

And its latest talking points offer some good news, including lower than expected precipitation in the coming week.

The weather service says the Red is expected to reach 35.4 feet by next Tuesday.

The rise then appears to slow, but the graph doesn't go beyond that.

This comes as the projected crest for the Red in Wahpeton is coming in on the lower end of a projected range, and earlier than expected.

The river in Wahpeton is expected to crest at 16.5' late Sunday-early Monday, and then begin to descend.

Peter Rogers- National Weather Service: "It's very important to be very careful with this forecast we're not trying to be flippant with it because we understand it is impacting many many people and a lot of major decisions that cost a lot of money."

The National Weather Service another positive point is that we've had very gradual runoff so far, and that some snowmelt is soaking into the soil.
