Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Mayors from across the metro are urging our communities to go green this week.

Mayor Walaker and Mayor Voxland are celebrating the 43rd annual Earth Day by kicking off an entire Earth Week here in the Valley.

To celebrate, they introduced activities like Metro Area Transit's Get Your "Can" on the Bus. People can ride the MAT Bus for free if they bring one empty aluminum can.

By riding public transit instead of using a car, a person can save 200 gallons of gas each year.

Mayor Walaker says, "there's a lot of things that go into green week, and I encourage everybody to participate. Whether it's recycling, you know, it's using bio-fuels."
