Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Firefighters say smoke detectors saved a family and their south Fargo twin home.

The homeowner woke up just after midnight to the fire alarm going off in his basement. Firefighters say he tried to put out the blaze himself, but was unsuccessful.

No one was injured and the firefighters stopped the fire before it could spread to the adjoining twin home. A cause has not been released.

Capt. Mike Hendrickson, Fargo Fire Department: "It was a very good case-in-hand of how smoke detectors, when batteries are in them and working, they do work. They woke the family up and got everybody out ok."

Damage is estimated at $25,000.
