Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Women, when we look in the mirror, we're never too easy on ourselves. And a new Dove commercial aims at that imperfection.
The ad, which is meant for women to see their own beauty, has gone viral.
reporter, Andrea Hubbell shows us what the valley thinks of the message.
Whether it's your hair, your smile or your not-so long legs.
Dove ad: "Tell me about your chin." "it kind of protrudes a little bit."
Dove skips that and strikes right at the source, our hearts.
Ladonna Degeblere- Reacting to Ad: "I think every woman relates to that commercial on some level."
We brought a tablet to the mall, so we could share the video. In the ad, an artist draws multiple different women.
The first sketch, showing what they think of themselves, the second reflecting their true beauty.
Dove ad: "She had nice eyes. They lit up when she spoke." "Cute nose."
Annette Beam- Reacting to Ad: "You don't think you're this enough or that enough."
Degeblere: "In trying to achieve that, we lose sight of who we really are."
Most women we talked to blamed the pressures of media.
A Women and Gender studies professor explains how to overcome those influences.
Kandace Creel Falcon- Women and Gender Studies Professor: "I think it's important for us to develop those skills to be able to analyze those negative messages and then maybe they won't mean as much when we continue to absorb them constantly."
But the ad didn't only strike a cord with female audiences, this man says it's dead on.
Kevin- Reacting to Ad: "I think women are held up to a much higher standard than men."
So, what can we do to see, how others picture us?
Dove ad: "The second one looks more open, friendly and happy."
According to Dove, start appreciating who we are.
Beam: "Other people can see you different way than that."
Instead of what we should fix.
