BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's Senate has approved a measure that would provide $5 million to tribal colleges for job training.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's Senate has approved a measure that would provide $5 million to tribal colleges for job training.

The Senate approved the measure Thursday. The House earlier endorsed the measure.

Tribal colleges in Fort Totten, Fort Yates, Belcourt and Bismarck can apply for the grant money from the state Commerce Department. The measure says the grant money must be divided equally among tribal colleges that apply for funding.

The Fort Berthold Community College in New Town does not qualify because it has an unemployment rate of lower than 30 percent. The reservation is in the heart of western North Dakota's booming oil patch.
