Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Our prolonged winter and multiple late snowstorms are affecting the wildlife.

North Dakota Game and Fish says the short-term effects on young animals like deer and pheasants can range from it being harder to find food to death.

But our winter weather isn't all bad. All the snow can provide better wetlands and help grow more food come summer time.

Doug Leier, ND Game and Fish: "It's hard to see much of a benefit right here and now with the piles of snow. But for the long term, the moisture can definitely be a good thing for wildlife and the fisheries as well."

And for those concerned about the birds migrating back too early, they're okay as well. They are all able to adapt to the changing climate.
