Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Volunteers at the First Lutheran Church in Fargo are lending a helping hand in the flood fight, making sure people are well fed.

A group of about 30 has been gathering several times a week to make sandwiches for sandbaggers. The volunteers team up to put together about 1,000 ham or turkey sandwiches each hour.

The work is a partnership with the Salvation Army who gives the church an order the day before, then takes the sandwiches to Sandbag Central.

Terry Yoney, Administrator: “The people who do the work at Sandbag Central and on the dikes certainly need some nourishment, and for the Salvation Army to take on this task alone, it would be a pretty daunting task.”

After Sandbag Central closes again, the group will make sandwiches for volunteers putting up the dikes.
