BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Roman Catholic priest nationally known for his anti-abortion activism is slated to lead a rally Wednesday afternoon at North Dakota's Capitol in Bismarck.

The Rev. Frank Pavone says in a statement that the event is to thank North Dakota lawmakers and Gov. Jack Dalrymple for passing a spate of anti-abortion measures this session.

Pavone leads a New York-based group called Priest for Life.

Dalrymple has signed legislation this session that makes North Dakota the most restrictive state in the nation in which to get the procedure.

The bills are meant to close the state's sole abortion clinic in Fargo and to challenge the U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion up until viability, usually at 22 to 24 weeks.
