Bison Football is finding depth

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- If there's area on the field this spring that has Craig Bohl's full attention it has to be linebacker...between Grant Olson, Carlton Littlejohn and Travis Beck. They played 98 percent of the defensive

snaps last season.

That's why finding some depth this spring has been so important.

Esley Thorton has re-made his body from quarterback to linebacker; while redshirt freshman MJ Stumpf is also trying to learn on the fly and step in to a important spot on the field.

Grant Olson- Bison Sr. Linebacker: "Sometimes it's hard for them because they're learning new concepts every day and trying to learn from their mistakes from the previous day so it's definitely not easy what they're doing but they're just moving more like linebackers--lower, better pad level. They are taking the coaching that coach Stanard is giving them and then applying it the next day. So everyday they get a litte better and it's nice to see."

M.J. Stumpf- Bison Redshirt Freshman Linebacker: "From a playbook standout it's definitely overload but being out on the field helps for sure. The guys I'm learning from have been playing here for a long time and they know everything I need to know. It helps when you're out there and you can say, "hey I need some help, put me in the right spot. Those guys can tell me what to do and could play any position on the field."

NDSU is slated to hold a second scrimmage Saturday; there may be a special guest on hand; former App State head coach Jerry Moore; he coached Craig Bohl at Nebraska; Bohl tells me they're working on a date for Moore to come.
