North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple brought the regional head of FEMA to Grand Forks Tuesday for a tour of existing flood protection in town, and a look at how people just outside of town are battling the rising Red River.

Dalrymple started the day meeting with Grand Forks city and county officials about the flood fight. After that, he jumped on a bus to join FEMA representatives on a tour to show off Grand Forks' permanent flood protection system.

But it's not only the success that Dalrymple wanted to show FEMA. To do that, he brought them aboard the Sheriff's Department airboat for a tour into the Burke addition area just to the south of the city.

Dalrymple urged FEMA representatives to add Grand Forks county to the Federal Disaster Declaration list to help people here and to the north of town.

During the airboat tour, Dalrymple and FEMA officials saw people using boats to get to their home, clay and sandbag levys being built to save property, and some storage buildings that were under water.
