Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Xcel customers in the metro, your monthly electric bill could soon be going up.

North Dakota's Public Service Commission held public input meetings throughout the state, regarding the possible increase.

The proposed cost would up the average users bill by 7 or 8 bucks a month.

Xcel covers 90-thousand customers in the state, a large portion being in Fargo and West Fargo. Reps say almost no attendance from the public tonight may be a good thing.

David Sederquist with Xcel Energy says, "that's what we hope. We hope that our rates being as low as they are people are satisfied that they're getting a good energy value."

Xcel says the increase is because of a large investment in its nuclear power plants, also upgrades at substations and distribution sites. A 2nd public hearing will be tomorrow at noon on NDSU's campus.
