Fargo free-throw ace shooting for second straight national title

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Not many 13 year-olds can say they've won a national title. Next weekend Fargo's Grace Geffre is trying to one-up that statement as she goes for her 2nd national championship in the Elks hoop shoot free throw competition held in Springfield, Massachusetts.

*Swish*

That's a familiar sound for Grace Geffre. She hears it over 100 times a day while training with her father Dan.

Grace Geffre: “I make 100 free throws, then I go around on the sides and make three of five.”

Does she complain about it or does she like to do this?

Dan Geffre – Grace’s Dad: “Not usually, some days she's like, ‘I don't want to do it anymore,’ so we leave.”

The free-throw line has become a second home for Geffre. This is a story that we did on her when she qualified for nationals at 8-years old.

Jody: “Do you get nervous when you shoot free throws?”

Grace Geffre: “No.”

This is her after winning the national title as an 11-year old. Now what's the goal?

Grace Geffre: “I want to win again.”

Jody: “What do you get when you win?”

Grace Geffre: “A huge trophy and then your name in the Hall of Fame.”

Jody: “How many have you made in a row before? What's your best?”

Grace Geffre: “108.”

Jody: “108, all in a row?”

Grace Geffre: “Yep.”

Jody: “Should we make this interesting and put a little pressure on you? Can you make one on one foot?”

Grace Geffre: “I'll try. I've never done this.”

Jody: “Eyes closed?” Oh my goodness. Whoever makes more in a row, doesn't have to run.

Grace Geffre: “Ok.”

Jody: “Great, this is great. How can I beat five?”

Grace Geffre: “Make five.”

Jody: “I look like Shaq when I'm shooting free throws don't I?” Okay, I guess I'll own up on my bet. But, good luck this week.

Grace Geffre: “Thanks. I guess you learned a lesson not to bet against me again. Do the other sports guys know how slow you are?”

Twelve players will take part in the national competition, the person who makes the most out of 25 will be the champion.
