Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- You've likely seen stories of horse therapy helping children with disabilities, but what about war veterans, troubled teens and stressed out corporate workers?

It's a growing trend across the U-S, using horses to address physical, emotional and mental distress.

The founder of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy says the horses are healers.

He spent time in Bismarck this week training people who'll bring others in for treatment.

Greg Kersten- Founder Equine Assisted Psychotherapy: "That's the neat thing about using horses is they are so basic in their communication, in their demonstration of emotion, trust, fear, anything like that. And humans love to complicate things, And the horses bring us back down to hey, let's keep this more basic."

Jon Eagle- Northern Plains Equine Assisted Practitioners: "They're more than just animals. They're actually a spirit, just like us. And they have this ability to heal."

They're training social workers and law enforcement in Bismarck.
