Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- A local true story 100 years old, has inspired a new book by a Sioux Falls author.

Roger Quam recently released, "The Teacher," a fictionalized account of a school shooting in Clay County in 1913.

Anna Skeim was shot several times by an ex-boyfriend in front of her students.

She survived, but her shooter killed himself.

Some of Quam's family members witnessed the event.

Roger Quam- Author: "My mother and two of my uncles were in the school at the time. So, I've got a pretty good knowledge of what it was. But I have some other writings of it."

The school still stands about two miles North of the buffalo river speedway on highway 9.

Quam says you can still see in the bullet holes in the doorway.
