Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - Tonight, we have new information about the murder, attempted suicide in Detroit Lakes.
Police have identified the man and woman involved and confirmed the cause of death was arrow injuries to the chest.
It was 69-year-old Geraldine Kading of Dent who was found dead at the scene. Sources say Kading and her alleged killer, 56-year-old David Stensrud, were a couple.
They were spotted several times along Washington Avenue, the same street where Stensrud lived, in apartment 918 and a half.
Witnesses say they seemed to be very nice and pleasant. Today, we spoke with the Lakes Crisis Center which helps those involved in violent relationships. Counselors say there are tell-tale signs leading up to an extreme case like murder.
Jan Logan, Lakes Crisis and Resource Center: "I think it's really important to seek out information, especially if you're questioning your relationship and you're feeling that you're not safe or that you're afraid."
This wouldn't be the first time David Stensrud committed a crime.
His Minnesota criminal history includes two counts of criminal sexual conduct which are both felonies. Stensrud was also sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexual contact with a minor younger than 13. In which he was recently released back in 2010.
Stensrud remains at Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes. His condition is unknown.
