Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Thousands of volunteers, eight days, and tonight, one million sandbags. Sandbag Central accomplished its goal in record time.

Seven-year-old Drew Cohen was the volunteer tonight who produced the magic one millionth sandbag. A proud dad sent us this picture. Way to go Drew.

Crews began the day with 876,000. Students from Cheney Middle School helped volunteer today and produced 92,000. And Sandbag Central isn't done yet.

Mayor Dennis Walaker, City of Fargo: “You set goals, and having a million today and we have another school that's going to come tomorrow, and after that's done, we're going to shut it down.”

Sandbag Central will close at 4 tomorrow afternoon, after the last group of students, from Discovery Middle school, is scheduled.
