Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The sandbag numbers are creeping higher and higher, almost reaching that one million mark.

Crews began the day with 876,000. Since then they've filled 92,000 more, on pace to reach the goal of one million sandbags by late today or early tomorrow.

Students from Cheney Middle School manned the spiders this morning, filling and piling up thousands of bags for flood prep.

Their hard work pushing numbers well ahead of schedule, enough to make Fargo City officials smile.

Mayor Dennis Walaker, City of Fargo: “You set goals, and having a million today and we have another school that's going to come tomorrow, and after that's done, we're going to shut it down.”

Even if numbers reach one million, Sandbag Central will close early at 4 tomorrow afternoon after the last group of students is scheduled.
