Minneapolis light rail service resumes along entire line

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Light rail service has now resumed along the entire Hiawatha Line from downtown Minneapolis to Bloomington as the spring storm starts to ease in the Twin Cities.

The wet spring snowstorm caused ice to accumulate on the overhead power lines faster than it could be scraped off, causing several trains to stall. Metro Transit brought in buses to transport riders instead.

But by 10 a.m. trains were running again along the entire line, which runs from Target Field in downtown Minneapolis to the airport and ends at the Mall of America in Bloomington.

Systemwide, Metro Transit says, about 60 percent of its buses are now running on time. The average delay is under 10 minutes.
