Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - We are learning more about a bizarre incident in Detroit Lakes that left one woman dead and a man injured. Sources are calling it a murder, attempted suicide and say the weapon was a bow and arrow.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is on scene tonight investigating what happened at a downtown Detroit Lakes apartment right on Washington Avenue.

A 69-year-old woman was found dead and a 56-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital.

What started out as a welfare check ended up as an investigation involving the BCA and shutting down part of a main street in Detroit Lakes.

Timothy Eggebraaten, Chief of Police: "We had to block off Washington Avenue from Frazee Street to Holmes Street for about an hour, just until we made sure the scene was secure."

When police entered an apartment in this building on the 900 block of Washington Avenue, they found a 69-year-old woman dead and a 56-year-old man injured.

The man was brought by ambulance to nearby St. Mary's Essentia Hospital. His condition was unknown.

Police say the public is not in danger.

Eggebraaten: "We're not looking for any suspects at this time. There is no immediate threat."

Sources say a bow and arrow were involved in the incident but police would not confirm the weapon.

The flashing lights and ambulances pulling up downtown in the middle of Wednesday afternoon caused a stir for businesses and residents nearby.

Stefani Evans, La Barista: "Everyone's been kind of buzzing, coming in and out, looking through our windows, trying to see what's going on. It's crazy. It's insane."

Stefani Evans works down the street, at a cafe within view of the scene.

Evans: "Being a smaller town, everyone knows each other. So, I'm sure it's going to be hard on a lot of people."

Police are not releasing any names. They are in the process of notifying the deceased woman's family.

They say the relationship between the man and woman is unclear.
