Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Ask those who make Maple Syrup and they will tell you 2012 was one of the worse syrup making seasons on record.

The problem last year the weather was too nice, too warm. This year, the trees are a bit confused. While some have seen some sap running, most trees are hanging on the product.

Makers need cold nights below freezing and daytime temps above freezing.

Dave Ellison, Maple Syrup Maker: “Monday it ran well as Maplewood and I look back at our records the barometric pressure bounced up and it was above freezing so I am going to start watching that to see what it is.”

Some states out east that have enjoyed a normal spring report record maple sap runs.
