Land once in the path of a diversion might be for saleFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Land that was once in the path of the Diversion may soon be sold for people to build homes.
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Land that was once in the path of the Diversion, may soon be sold for people to build homes.
The land is located on 40th avenue West and 15th street in West Fargo. Cass County purchased most of the vacant lots in Hayden Heights as a precaution, and now after an updated alignment the county may see a benefit.
The county purchased the land sometime last year. Most of the lots were foreclosed on by the City Of West Fargo. County officials bought the land so people wouldn't build homes, just to have them possibly bought out down the road.
County Administrator Keith Berndt says that after going over maps and plans, the county had to adjust the alignment which makes the lots OK to build on.
Keith Berndt - Cass County Administrator: “We bought them for the city at a very inexpensive price. We basically paid the special assessment on those lots, so we didn't pay them at a premium price.”
Berndt says with permanent flood protection, planned walking paths and green space, this ghost town block, could soon be a thriving development and the lots could be worth top dollar. The land won't be sold until after the diversion is complete.
