Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- The Moorhead hockey team was honored tonight at the school board meeting for its consolation championship at the state tournament back in March and the man who led them all season long was rewarded as the interim title was removed from Pete Cullen's label as head coach of the Spuds...WDAY 6's Jody Norstedt visited with Cullen.

Cullen: "Today when I heard I was filled with joy. I was absolutely ecstatic! Last year, just getting hired was a huge accomplishment for myself. I was just excited to be there. But, taking that interim label off and knowing I could be here for quite a stint is pretty exciting for me."

When did you have a sense that this job was probably going to be yours. Was there a point in the season or was it when you won the section title?

Cullen: "I didn't really think about it until after the state tournament. But, I did have a good sense and a good feeling. We had a good year. We had a lot of things off the rink that went well also."

There's a lot of pressure with this job. How did you deal with that this season?

Cullen: "There is a lot of pressure if you let the people who talk get to you. But, if you stay focused and know where you want to be in the end and work your whole season to that one goal. In the end, you can shy away a lot of that other attention."

Dave Morinville coached this team for 15 years. Your uncle coached this team before that. What makes you want to be a long term guy here?

Cullen: "Well, I'm an alumni. I played here back in the day and I'm just proud to be a Spud. I love hockey and we have a strong tradition here in Moorhead. And I'm just happy to do it for these kids."

Spuds graduate 8 from this year's team but starting goalie Jacob Dittmer returns he's just a junior.
