Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Some of downtown Fargo's major streets will see a big change by Labor Day.
That's when NP Avenue and 1st Avenue will be converted from one way roads to two way traffic. The city announced construction updates today, with the project kicking off early June.
Contractors will replace bricks at the intersections of 1st and Broadway, and N-P & Broadway. Then put in proper signing, striping, and traffic lights.
City officials say two way traffic could bring three times as much business to downtown.
Jeremy Gorden, Fargo Traffic Engineer, says, "In all reality, businesses hate one way traffic for the most part, and they hate medians. So, this should be business friendly, it should be pedestrian friendly, and for people coming from out of town, it's a lot easier to navigate around town."
NP will be shut down for a month before the street fair. Then 1st avenue closed for a month after the street fair while construction is completed.
