Wheaton, MN (WDAY TV) -- The Army Corps has released the max amount of water from the White Rock Dam near Wheaton.

The Corps has drawn down the dam at White Rock as far as it can, allowing for storage from the Spring Melt on Mud Lake.

Corps officials saw noticeable changes in the channel the last 48-hours, with ice breaking up and more open water. With the dam drawn down, there is more of a security blanket for cities like Wahpeton and Fargo.

Tom Mattis, White Rock Dam Manager, says, "we had plenty of snow and there is a 4 inch water content in most of it. And in the last nine years I have not seen a thaw like this last year there was no snow and before that it came a little quicker than that. It has been unusual for me."

The Corps is also working to drop the level at the Orwell Dam, near Fergus Falls, to allow more storage there.
