West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- The loved ones of a West Fargo family killed by a drunken driver this past summer, headed out for a rainy run this morning.

The goal: to change attitudes about drinking and driving. Today's inaugural "Run for Change" was organized by friends and family of Aaron and Allison Deutscher.

Both were avid sports enthusiasts, and Allison was a runner. They expected about 300 people to attend.

This morning, there were about one-thousand people registered for the 1, 5, and 10k events.

Tom Deutscher, Aaron's father, says, "It's very emotional, I would say. At first we figured we'd have family and friends, but as it turns out the community is behind this thing entirely."

Proceeds from the run benefit the Safe Communities Coalition of the Red River Valley.
