Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- A Fargo man plans on fighting this year's flood with a new tool. He claims the new technology can make sandbagging both faster and easier.
With every shovel full, and each bag filled, it seems this pile isn't getting any smaller. The longer you work, the bigger the pain it becomes.
James Pladson- Reach Right Inventor: "It reduces how much you have to bend over."
But these guys think they've found a solution.
Pladson: "Keeps you from having to bend over all the way. You just bend over a little bit."
It's called the "Reach Right"
Pladson: "5, 6 years ago I had an idea. I was out shoveling snow, and it just kind of evolved from there into the product I got now."
It's pretty simple, it just straps on, to help distribute the weight.
Nick Hansen- Reach Right: "If I'm a 15 year old kid, and I can go a million miles a minute, maybe I won't make a difference. But if I'm 40,50 years old with chronic back problems or something like that, this could really help that out."
Just two weeks ago, James and Nick put together 20 prototypes, 15 of those they donated to Sandbag Central to test them out.
So far, so good.
Pladson/Reach Right Inventor: "It can be pretty stressful on the back. So, this just helps you stay up right and shovel a lot of sand without hurting your back."
And they say - there's no wrong way to use the new tool. Sand, snow, dirt, however you want to use it.
Pladson: "This just goes between tools pretty easily."
This new local invention can save you some pain this flood season.
The "Reach Right" is so new, the owners say, they don't even have a price for it yet.
