BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Senate Appropriations Committee has given a "do pass' recommendation to expand Medicaid to cover more uninsured residents of the state.

The committee voted 7-6 on Wednesday.

Sen. Ray Holmberg is chairman of the committee. The Grand Forks Republican says the full Senate should vote on the measure next week.

Holmberg says the vote will be close but he expects it to pass.

North Dakota's House reluctantly endorsed the measure late last month while criticizing the component of the federal Affordable Care Act championed by President Barack Obama.
