Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - There are few spots on the field where a redshirt freshman could make an impact for NDSU but wide receiver is one of them. With senior to be Ryan Smith out this month, it's a golden opportunity for Demitrius Gray.

Gray is 6'3, 180 pounds. When he arrived in Fargo last August there was some speculation he could play right away but Gray redshirted and watched as the Bison receiving core had its high and low moments last year, but now has his chance for the coaches to take notice.

Demitrius Gray, NDSU Redshirt Freshman Wide Receiver: “I'm just trying to get better, day by day. Really comes down to effort. What I learned when I first came here. Talent can only go so far, just got to learn. Maturity comes first. Pick up things fast; understand the playbook, understand why you're doing everything. After that it's rep after rep. Look up to the older guys. Vraa is a good guy to watch, Trevor a good mentor. Obviously Ryan, love Coach Burns he never lets you fall off.”

Gray is joined by two other redshirts; Bemidji standout Carey Woods and walk-on Erik Perkins. NDSU wrapped its second practice this afternoon.
