Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The weather is stalling this year's spring thaw and that has the National Weather Service a bit nervous.
Meteorologists talked with people in rural Clay County tonight about what to expect from the melt and from the rising rivers.
They say everything is frozen now and their biggest fear would be to have a big warm up and a fast melt. That combined with a significant rainfall could be devastating.
Greg Gust, National Weather Service: “We're getting later now into April and our susceptibility for a rapid warm up 60, 70 degree temperature day or a thunderstorm rolling up on us, a heavy rain event an inch of more or rain coming would cause things to flush quickly. We don't want to have that happen.”
Gust says the Red River flooding will likely peak late this year after April 15th.
