Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - As Fargo and Cass County get to work protecting their communities, Moorhead is lending a helping hand.

Five Moorhead city council members were among those first on the scene at sandbag central today.

Council member Nancy Otto took the opportunity to urge the importance of a diversion, saying communities on both sides of the river would benefit from the added protection.

Nancy Otto, Moorhead City Council: "What happens in Fargo affects Moorhead and what happens in Moorhead affects Fargo. So, we're all in this together. We want to know that we sincerely hope we get the volunteers we need to help here in Fargo."

Moorhead wants to re-assure its residents, the need for a large-scale sandbagging effort isn't needed. The city has invested 80 million dollars in flood protection projects over the last four years.
