FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A group of international and U.S. students are showcasing their cultural heritage at North Dakota State University by carrying flags from their home countries and wearing ethnic clothing.

The annual Parade of Nations, which begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday, serves as the kick-off event for Global Awareness Month at the university.

The group will be accompanied by a student playing a traditional instrument.

Office of International Programs director Lisa Hauk says NDSU has more than 1,000 international students representing 75 countries. She says the parade reflects the diverse student population with a visually stunning and colorful event.

A reception with cake and coffee will follow at the Memorial Union.

The event is free and open to the public.
