(WDAY TV) -- Take a look at the numbers and there is no question we have reason for a little "self-pity."

It is rare that we carry over snow from the long winter into the first week of April. In fact, it was back in 1899 since it last happened.

Sure we have had snow in April before, but it's rare to see so little melting of the winter snow pack this late. After a cold March, it appears the first week of April will not feel like Spring either. The 10-inches of snow we have on the ground isn't going anywhere soon.

StormTRACKER Meteorologist, Daryl Ritchison, says, "from what I have looked at, I do believe we will have carried more of the winter snow into april than any other year on record, we have had more snow on occasion but those are years where it melted and we had a big snowstorm at the end of march."

Daryl says another reason for our low temps right now, is the significant snow cover. The sunlight reflects right off the snow.
