Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Vietnam Vets are being celebrated in West Fargo.

In March 2012, Senator John Hoeven proclaimed this day as Vietnam Veterans day marking the 35th anniversary of the end of American involvement in the Vietnam conflict.

Vets celebrated at West Fargo's VFW. This is the first time a celebration like this has been held there. Vietnam era memorabilia, videos, and books were on display for viewing. Vets shared stories of their time in Vietnam.

Jim Hapala, a Vietnam Vet said, "It's kind of nice, you know it's been 45 to 50 years you know and I can believe it has been that long, but it's kind of nice. We're meeting a lot of new guys here."

Organizers hope to hold the celebration each year.
