Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's been 11 weeks since NDSU won a second straight FCS Championship, but the toll of playing 44 games over the past three seasons has apparently caught up to Craig Bohl's bunch.
Bohl told me today that eight starters will not participate in spring football starting on Monday because of various injuries.
Here's the list ranging from North Dakota natives Travis Beck, Ryan Drevlow and Ryan Smith, along with Josh Colville and John Crockett and two guys still rehabbing in Colten Heagle and Leevon Perry; meaning plenty of reserves will see action over the next month.
Craig Bohl, 89-32 Record at NDSU: “Well it could in a way be helpful but as we practice typically we try to do two teams. We've been able to have our young guys get a lot of work, alter how we practice as we get closer to the spring practice. Is this even viable; need to be sensitive as a head football coach, have to make improvement. Our experienced players have to improve. Moreover, we need to develop depth and that's typically when you do it.”
Bohl also added that two players have left the team; running back Matt Jones and tight end Derrek Lee. Each were part of the 2011 class.
