Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - China may soon have more North Dakota specialty crops used in its food supply.

People from 14 different North Dakota companies and organizations just got back from a week in Beijing and Guangzhou.

They demonstrated to more than 150 Chinese buyers the uses for high quality commodities in Chinese food, products like flax, sunflowers, barley, and wheat.

Organizers say the hands-on demonstration, betters our state's chance to gain potential clients.

John Crabtree, Asst. Dir. North Dakota Crop Institute: “China is a huge market and they have a large middle class, and so they have money to spend, and the first thing that people do when their income rises, they want to improve their diets and so for the state of North Dakota this is an excellent opportunity.”

One company has already received a follow up.
